Switzerland

Drinking culture in Switzerland insists on having a relationship with the stomach, that means with the food that is being eaten alongside alcohol drinking. It is tradition to finish any meal with liquors such as the Kirsch (cherry liquor), the Williamine (pear liquor), or local made spices liquors.

Swiss cafés also called bars often sell alcoholic drinks. Most people enjoy of having coffee in the morning, a quick beer. Around the country, daytime places for tea and cakes are dubbed tearooms, Konditorei, pâtisserie or confiserie, pasticceria.

Drinking venues vary according to the region: a cozy Bierstube or Stübli replete with wood beams and Swiss kirsch is the evening meeting place of choice in both: city and village in German speaking Switzerland, while in Romandie and Ticino cafés are more common.
