Byrrh
Description
Byrrh is a blend of red wine flavored with quinine.
History
Byrrh was created in 1886 by the Brothers Pallade and Violet Simon, who decided to take advantage of the wine fever in their region transformed into mistelles, a sort of aperitif wine flavored with cinchona. The resulting product was first marketed as a health drink or tonic.
Uses
Byrrh is drunk as an aperitif, it's best served cool, at approximately 16°, straight or with a twist of lemon zest. It's also served with a little Crème de Cassis.
