Syria is a country that has been the meeting place and crossroad of different people and cultures since the dawn of civilization. Syrians can be Arabs, Bedouins, Kurds, Armenians, Circassians and Turks.

Most of the population is Muslim by religion, Muslims do not eat pork or drink alcohol. They eat halal meat, which has been specially prepared by the butcher according to Muslim traditions. However there are hundreds of shops where Syrians can enjoy of fresh fruit juices or drinks made with a combination of milk and juice.

Cafes are very popular in Syria, they are places where people meet with friends over a hot drink, usually Arabic coffee or shai and a small bite to eat. They smoke fruit flavored tobacco from water pipes called "erghilly", they have stories of traditions tellers who entertain visitors and locals.
