Rum

 

 

Rum is a distilled spirit made from sugar cane. The process consists in fermenting the molasses and sugarcane juice. The result is a clear liquid that is aged in oak and other types of casks. Rum is produced worldwide, in countries such as: Australia, India, USA, South Africa, etc. However rum comes originally from the Caribbean Islands and South America.

 

Rum Types

Rum and its variations are described depending on the location, but it is normally referred to its aging, color and taste.

 

Light Rum

Light Rum is also known as silver, and white rum. It is filtered after aging to eliminate the color and its taste is very light.

Gold Rum

Gold Rum is also called amber rum or brown rum, it is aged in wooden casks and it is medium bodied, its flavor is a result of the addition of spices and caramel color.

Dark Rum

Dark rum is known as black rum. It is darker than gold rum. Its aging time is longer and has much stronger flavor than light and gold rums. Its color and substance comes after adding a strong molasses or caramel overtone.

Flavoured Rum

Flavoured Rum is a rum that has been infused with fruity flavors such as: lemon, mango, orange, coconut and lime.

Overproof Rum

Overproof Rum is a rum with higher alcohol content. Most of them could reach up to 75%.

Premium Rum

Premium Rum, also known as Ron Añejo (in spanish speaking countries) is the one that has been aged for a long time in order to obtain more character and flavor. It is made to be consumed straight without addition of other ingredients.
