Aguardiente

Aguardiente, that literally means: "fire water" is a traditional brewed spirit produced by Latin America. It is made from sugarcane by distilling and fermenting its juice producing an alcoholic drink with grade ranging from 50% to 90%.

 

Aguardiente is also called "burning water" because it feels like if it would burn the throat when one is drinking it.  At present, Sugarcane Aguardiente is known with several names and expressions depending of the country of origin, such as: Holy Water, Branquinha, Cachaca, Puntas, etc.

 

The versatility of this drink allows of Aguardiente to be the basic ingredient for cocktails combinations, some of them are being produced in factories and some of the strongest varieties are only found in illegal homemade distilleries.

 

Aguardiente is produced in countries such as: Colombia, Ecuador, Brasil, etc.
